Tomorrow afternoon I am leaving on a Pioneer Trek with my family and my stake. This is the second time that I have had the opportunity to go on this particular trek, and I couldn't be more excited!!! This afternoon I found myself searching for the name of a person from my family history that I could "be" while on the trek, and just learn more about. I decided I'm going to be Mariah Huntsman (Leavitt), who was born on 20 Feb. 1841. She married Dudley Leavitt, and together they had 12 children. Twelve! Wow. My mom said she would be a fun person to be and know more about because her name is where I got my middle name. Kelsie Mariah.
As I go on this trek, I am excited to have Mariah in mind throughout it. It will be neat going through similar things she went through, and knowing that my family was really a part of trekking :) My little brother is going as Orange Decator Leavitt (we are entertained by his name too!) Every person has their own story, and I'm excited to hear some of the others' stories throughout the trek. The stories really are testimony builders, because the people went through so much just to be able to live where they knew the Lord wanted them to live! And they were so happy too!
I'm sure we will come back with great stories to tell and definitely great experiences. Until then............have a happy week! :) While all of you will have the luxuries of a warm, dry, home, and a soft, comfortable bed at night and lots of yummy food.... I will be out sleeping under the stars in the wilderness in a flannel nightgown, eating soup broth for dinner and corn meal for breakfast and just having a wonderful time!
Woo hoo! Pioneer trek, here we come!
